The burial arrangements for late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, have been announced by his family.
Mr Ibu will be laid to rest on June 28, 2024.
The burial date was announced on April 13 by Mr. Ibu’s elder brother, Okafor, who mentioned that the actor would be given a grand send-off, hence the postponement of the burial.
According to a statement issued by the family and the burial committee, Mr Ibu will be laid to rest in his hometown, Amuri, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The Okafor family of Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and legend, John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in death left a legacy of love, laughter and vibrancy.
“We would appreciate your esteemed presence as we lay our son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and in-law to rest on June 28, 2024.
“Please join us as we share the best and final moments with our icon,” the statement read.
The iconic actor passed away at a hospital in Nigeria on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
The five-day burial ceremony will begin on Tuesday, June 25, with a high-profile novelty match in honour of the late actor.
On Wednesday 26 June, a special event called ‘Mr Ibu’s Night’ will be held, with a candlelight procession and live entertainment to celebrate his life and legacy.
On Thursday, June 27, a Christian wake will be held at Mr Ibu’s compound in Eziokwe, Amuri, Nkanu West for family, friends and fans to pay their respects and share memories of the beloved actor.
