Tension is high in Kabuchai Constituency after attackers stormed and vandalized the home of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga shortly after he hosted United Opposition leader and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya during a campaign visit in Chwele.

A video shared online showed smashed windows and extensive damage to the MP’s two-storey residence. The scenes of destruction drew immediate concern from local leaders who arrived at the home to assess the situation.

Governor Natembeya, accompanied by former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, condemned the attack after inspecting the damage. They warned that the incident reflects rising political hostility in Kabuchai as campaigns intensify.

The leaders linked the vandalism to growing tensions surrounding the Chwele-Kabuchai Ward by-election, which has sparked fierce competition among rival political camps. Each group is pushing hard to secure victory for its preferred candidate.

Independent candidate Erick Wekesa has gained significant momentum in the race, boosted by strong support from MP Kalasinga. His candidacy is seen as a major challenge to Ford Kenya’s Vincent Maundu, raising political temperatures even further.

Earlier the same day, Natembeya claimed his rally in Mukweyu was disrupted by individuals who allegedly used live ammunition. The incident heightened concerns that political violence in the area may be escalating.

In an official statement, the DAP-K party condemned the attack on Kalasinga’s residence, urging the IEBC and security agencies to intervene swiftly. The party warned that such incidents undermine hopes for peaceful, credible campaigns.

DAP-K leaders insisted that political intimidation threatens public trust in the electoral process and called for firm action to ensure candidates and their supporters can campaign freely and safely.

As investigations get underway, leaders and residents remain on edge, waiting to see what unfolds next. Observers have urged calm as the by-election approaches, calling for a peaceful political environment.
