Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino scored a brilliant hat-trick for Spain.
Mikel Merino continued his stunning international form with a hat-trick as Spain thrashed Turkey in their Euro 2025 qualifier. The Arsenal man scored twice in the first half and completed his treble in the 57th minute with a curling shot after a fine pass from teenage star Lamine Yamal.
The 29-year-old has now scored six goals in his last six matches for Spain, a sharp contrast to his earlier record of just two goals in 31 appearances.
Spain’s attacking display was made even brighter by Mikel Oyarzabal, who registered three assists, including both of Merino’s first-half strikes. Pedri chipped in with a brace of his own, while Ferran Torres added the final goal to underline Spain’s dominance.
Despite strong backing from their home fans, Turkey struggled to keep up with Spain’s control and sharpness. A late goal offered some consolation, but the result was a sobering reminder of the gap between the two sides.
Coach Luis de la Fuente’s men now lead Group E with two wins from two games, while Turkey remain on three points alongside Georgia. Beyond the result, Spain’s victory highlighted Merino’s rise as a key figure in a team that blends experience with young stars like Pedri and Yamal.
