Deputy Party Leader of the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, is in serious trouble after a helicopter linked to him caused chaos during the national secondary school games finals at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega.
The helicopter landed without clearance at halftime during a high-stakes match between Musingu High School and St. Joseph’s Kitale, shocking the crowd and disrupting the event.
Western Region Police Commander Issa Muhamoud confirmed that Malala and the pilot have been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and are facing several charges: Endangering public safety, Trespassing, Creating a public nuisance, Violating aviation and education laws
“This was neither an emergency nor an accident. It was a blatant violation of civil aviation laws and the Basic Education Act,” — Commander Issa Muhamoud
Authorities condemned the incident, calling it a reckless display of power that could have triggered a stampede among the thousands of students, teachers, and parents present.
“The safety of children is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate impunity that endangers the lives of our young people,” — Commander Muhamoud
Malala, a former Kakamega Senator and known political heavyweight, has not publicly responded to the allegations. The incident has sparked outrage across Kenya, with many questioning the growing trend of public officials disregarding rules for personal or political gain.
