Kimani Ichung’wah’s father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi, has passed away at 105.

National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has been thrown into mourning following the death of his father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi. The 105-year-old passed away quietly in his sleep at his Kikuyu home.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah following the passing of their patriarch,” Wetang’ula said, describing Mzee Ngugi as a man whose long life left a lasting legacy.

Mzee Ngugi lived through Kenya’s transformation from colonial rule to a modern republic. Those who knew him remember his resilience, discipline, and work ethic — values he passed on to his son. Ichung’wah has often credited his father for shaping his leadership and moral grounding.

The loss comes as Ichung’wah remains central in Kenya Kwanza’s political leadership, guiding debate in Parliament and defending government policies. His father’s passing marks a deeply personal moment for a man in the national spotlight.

Condolences are expected to pour in from across the political divide and the public. Many will remember Mzee Ngugi not only as a father to one of Kenya’s top politicians but also as a symbol of endurance whose journey spanned more than a century.
