After years of tracking Oseguera, Mexican authorities received actionable intelligence on February 20, revealing the suspected location of the cartel leader.
According to Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, investigators had traced Oseguera’s network to a crucial intermediary—described as a “trusted associate” of one of his romantic partners—who provided a pathway to the hideout.
The next day, the woman departed the cabin compound located on the outskirts of Tapalpa, while Oseguera reportedly stayed behind at the property with members of his security team.
Within 24 hours, Mexican special forces—including the National Guard’s Special Immediate Reaction Force—finalized their operational strategy and executed the raid.
To minimise suspicion and reduce visibility, officials said the operation relied largely on ground units, with only limited helicopter support involved.
