LOC Inspects Tanzania’s CHAN Venues as Kenya Finalizes Preparations

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has conducted an inspection of Tanzania’s CHAN venues as Kenya finalizes its preparations for the upcoming tournament. The tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, will take place from August 2 to 30, 2025.

LOC chairman Nicholas Musonye and his team recently visited Tanzania to assess its stadiums. This visit aimed to align preparations across the three host nations, ensuring the tournament runs smoothly.

Musonye emphasized that Kenya is almost ready, with only minor tasks such as painting and final cleaning remaining at key venues like Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums. Uganda is also at a similar stage of preparation, while Tanzania is making final adjustments.

CAF’s Decision to Postpone CHAN

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) previously postponed the tournament after technical experts assessed the facilities. This decision was made to ensure that all stadiums meet CAF’s required standards for a successful event.

Initially, the tournament was scheduled for February 1 to 28, 2025. However, CAF’s assessment led to the postponement, allowing additional time for finalizing the necessary improvements.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe recently confirmed the new tournament dates after the executive committee’s meeting in Rabat, Morocco. The competition is now set to commence on August 2 and conclude on August 30, 2025.

Tanzania’s Progress in CHAN Preparations

The LOC delegation, led by Musonye and CEO Myke Rabar, visited Dar es Salaam to inspect venues and attend a sponsorship extension event between CAF and TotalEnergies at the Dar Hyatt Hotel.

Musonye praised Tanzania’s coordination efforts with Kenya and Uganda, noting that the three countries are well-prepared. The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and designated training grounds in Dar es Salaam are nearly ready, with only minor adjustments needed.

CAF remains confident that the three host nations will meet the required standards, making the tournament a success. The organizers are now focused on final touches, including promotion and branding activities.

CAF and TotalEnergies Extend Partnership

During the LOC’s visit to Tanzania, CAF announced a four-year extension of its partnership with TotalEnergies. This deal covers sponsorship for major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and CHAN.

TotalEnergies will continue sponsoring 12 CAF events from 2024 to 2028. These include the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024, CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, and CAF Africa Cup of Nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2027. The renewed agreement underscores the importance of strategic corporate partnerships in supporting African football’s growth.

CAF President Motsepe expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its role in developing African football. He noted that TotalEnergies’ support has significantly contributed to various football programs, including the African Schools Football Championship. The initiative, which has seen participation from thousands of young footballers, aims to nurture talent and provide opportunities for aspiring professionals.

Beyond financial sponsorship, TotalEnergies has committed to supporting initiatives focused on infrastructure development, sustainability, and talent scouting. The company’s continued investment will help improve the quality of training facilities, increase participation in grassroots football, and elevate the overall standard of competitions held under CAF’s umbrella.

Final Stages of CHAN Preparations

With Kenya finalizing preparations and Tanzania making rapid progress, all three host nations are expected to be ready well ahead of the tournament’s kick-off date. The LOC remains confident that CHAN 2025 will be successfully co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

CAF’s continued support, alongside strategic sponsorships, ensures that the tournament will meet international standards. Football fans across Africa eagerly anticipate the competition, which will showcase the best domestic-based talent from across the continent. Ticket sales, fan engagement activities, and broadcasting deals are set to be finalized in the coming months, further boosting the tournament’s visibility.

With Tanzania’s CHAN venues inspected and Kenya finalizing preparations, the tournament is on track for a historic edition, set to take place in August 2025. Fans can expect high-quality football, well-organized events, and a celebration of African football talent. The LOC remains committed to delivering a world-class tournament that will leave a lasting legacy for future CHAN editions.
