A hilarious and slightly embarrassing moment unfolded in Parliament today after newly elected MP Leo Wa Muthende was caught completely glued to his phone while Ndindi Nyoro was delivering a serious address to fellow lawmakers.

Nyoro stood at the front, focused and determined, trying to drive his point home. But Muthende, seated comfortably, seemed lost in his own digital world scrolling, tapping, and even appearing to make a quick phone call.

His actions instantly caught the attention of MPs around him, with some sneaking glances, others stifling laughter, and a few shaking their heads in disbelief.

At one point, Ndindi looked directly at Muthende, hoping to catch his attention, but the rookie MP didn’t seem bothered. Whispered jokes began circulating across the House, with one MP murmuring, “Huyu anapenda phone kuliko Parliament.” That whisper alone drew several quiet chuckles.

The Speaker tried bringing order by clearing his throat and saying, “Focus!” but Muthende stayed on his phone a little longer before slowly sliding it down. By then, the whole chamber’s focus had shifted from Ndindi’s speech to the unexpected comic relief happening right behind him.

Journalists quickly captured the moment, and within minutes, the clips hit social media. From there, it became full-blown entertainment. Kenyans online have turned the scene into a meme factory, comparing Ndindi to a frustrated teacher and Muthende to the cheeky student who always gets caught on the wrong day.

Others joked that while Nyoro was passionately speaking about national issues, Muthende was “probably checking WhatsApp groups.” Another trending comment mocked: “That call must have been more important than Parliament itself.”

The incident has sparked conversations on discipline in the House, with some Kenyans arguing that Parliament has slowly become more dramatic than serious, while others are simply enjoying the humour of the moment.

Even after the session ended, MPs were heard discussing the incident in the corridors some calling it disrespectful, others saying it was harmless and funny. But one thing is certain: the Leo-Muthende-On-Phone moment has officially taken over Kenyan social media.

Blind husband regains his sight, but doesn’t tell his wife and he realizes he’s been lied to for years.

For Ndindi Nyoro, it was a test of patience. For Muthende, it has become an unplanned breakout moment one that the internet will not let him forget anytime soon.

If there is one lesson from today, it’s that in Parliament, attention is key. Ndindi brought seriousness, but Muthende unintentionally brought entertainment. And now, Kenyans cannot stop talking and laughing about it.
