Kylian Mbappé is demanding 263 million euros from PSG, the club is asking for 440 million.

A new episode unfolds in the ongoing legal battle between Kylian Mbappé and PSG since the Frenchman’s departure for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024.

On Monday, November 17, in the labor court, the player claimed €263 million from his former club. In return, PSG is demanding €440 million from its former striker. Here’s the breakdown.

Paris Saint-Germain is demanding €440 million from Kylian Mbappé. Figures were flying around on November 17, 2025, the day of the labor court hearing for the Parisian club and its former player, who have been in dispute since the latter’s departure from the Rouge et Bleu. Initially, it emerged from the hearing that PSG was claiming €180 million from the French national team captain. This figure was then revised upwards to €240 million.

But it is indeed the colossal sum of €440 million that PSG is demanding from Kylian Mbappé. Renaud Semerdjian, one of the club’s seven lawyers, confirmed this to AFP at the end of the day. He elaborated: “€20 million for damage to reputation, €60 million for bad faith in the execution of an agreement dated August 2023, €180 million for concealing this agreement, and €180 million for lost opportunity to transfer the player.” This last sum is linked to a failed transfer after an offer of €300 million from the Saudi club Al Hilal, which the player rejected in July 2023.

Frédéric Cassereau, one of Kylian Mbappé’s five lawyers, confirmed that PSG is indeed demanding €440 million.

The striker has been in conflict with his former club for several years. The reason: Mbappé’s desire to see out his contract with the Parisian club until the summer of 2024 and then leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The club’s demand, crowned European champions in May 2025, is in response to the €263 million claimed by Mbappé, notably for the reclassification of his fixed-term contract as a permanent one and for the psychological harassment he claims to have suffered at the end of his contract.

In the summer of 2023, when PSG realized that their star player wanted to leave for free, as he was a free agent at the end of his contract, while simultaneously ruling out any possibility of an extension, the Parisian management sidelined the striker from the first team. This is known in football jargon as the “loft” method.

A tumultuous hearing

In the Parisian offices of the labor court, unaccustomed to handling such high-profile cases, the lawyers for the capital club, who had turned out in force, attempted to create a stir. At the very start of the hearing, they asked the labor court to relinquish jurisdiction to the Paris Judicial Court , which had already been seized of the matter, for the same reason, they argued. The request was denied.

The preliminary hearing before the Paris Judicial Court, still ongoing and scheduled for May, was postponed.

The proceedings finally began shortly before 4 p.m., with the presiding judge reminding both parties that they would each have only one hour to present their arguments.

The dispute has long poisoned the star’s relationship with his former club, for whom he played from 2017 to 2024. After being sidelined in the summer of 2023, Mbappé was ultimately reinstated after the first matchday of the season.

PSG maintains that this reinstatement was the result of an agreement between the two parties stipulating that the player had to forgo a portion of the sums owed at the end of his contract to protect the club’s financial health. A ”  fantasy  ,” according to Mbappé’s camp.

“  With the agreement I reached with President Nasser al-Khelaïfi this summer, whatever my decision, we managed to protect all parties  ,” Mbappé declared on RMC in January 2024.

The French national team captain, who ultimately joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after his contract with PSG expired without a transfer fee, is claiming €55 million in unpaid bonuses and wages, asserting, according to his entourage, that no agreement to waive these payments ever existed between him and the club.

Kylian Mbappé’s legal team has calculated that if his fixed-term contract is reclassified as a permanent contract, in addition to the damages he has suffered, the amount owed by the club to the player would reach €263 million.

The labor court’s decision is not expected for several weeks.
