Henderson, 35, is joining Brentford after parting ways with Ajax.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is heading back to the Premier League. He’s agreed to join Brentford on a two-year contract after mutually ending his deal with Ajax, one year early.

Despite receiving interest from several big clubs across Europe, Henderson chose the Bees, who offered both a solid project and top-flight football.

Henderson’s arrival comes at the right time for Brentford, who recently lost their captain, Christian Norgaard, to Arsenal. With 84 England caps, Henderson brings leadership and experience to the midfield.

His Premier League return also gives him a better chance to stay in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

After leaving Liverpool in 2023, Henderson spent a few months in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq. He then joined Ajax in early 2024, making over 50 appearances before narrowly missing the Eredivisie title to PSV.

During his 12-year spell at Liverpool, Henderson lifted every major trophy available, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup.

The deal with Brentford is expected to be finalised in the coming days.
