Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has opened up about why he has become increasingly cautious about what he eats and drinks while attending public functions.
The outspoken politician revealed that he now prefers consuming food and beverages prepared at home, saying the move is purely for personal safety and peace of mind.
Speaking during an interview on Radio Citizen, Sifuna explained that advice from supporters prompted him to rethink how casually he takes refreshments while out in public.
He noted that as a public figure, one cannot afford to ignore certain risks, even when they appear small or unlikely.
The senator shared that he now asks his wife to pack his tea and drinking cup whenever he is leaving home for official duties.
During the interview, he lightheartedly displayed a small thermos and cup that had been prepared for him.
He said he no longer feels comfortable drinking tea just anywhere, adding that it is better to be safe than sorry. His remarks sparked laughter in the studio, but he maintained that the precaution is necessary.
Sifuna disclosed that the decision was partly influenced by a social media user who warned him about being too open to taking drinks in public spaces.
The comment was posted on X, where a Kenyan user advised him to be more vigilant. While the message appeared humorous, Sifuna said he took it seriously and chose to act on it.
Following his revelation, Kenyans online reacted with mixed responses. Some praised him for prioritizing his safety and being mindful of his surroundings.
Others responded playfully, suggesting additional measures he could take to remain cautious.
Sifuna’s comments offered a rare glimpse into the personal adjustments public leaders sometimes make behind the scenes.
Although delivered in a light tone, his message underscored the realities that come with public life and the importance of staying alert at all times.
