After Rigathi Gachagua was impeached as the deputy president of Kenya, President William Ruto appointed Kithure Kindiki to take his place.
Ruto was apparently hoping to retain Mt Kenya support through Kindiki. However, this resulted to supremacy battle between Kindiki and his predecessor.
Gachagua currently claiming to be the King of the mountain and has the final say on political matters in the region.
The former DP even went ahead to form his own party, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he expects the region to use for the 2027 general election.

On the other hand, Kindiki says he is the senior most politician in Mt Kenya at the moment and no one should claim otherwise. The DP has been wooing the region to rally behind him and vote for Ruto in 2027. Kindiki says he would like to succeed Ruto in 2032 but that can only happen if Ruto wins second term in 2027.
The currently some Mt Kenya MPs have started aligning themselves with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
However, there are two counties in the region where there is no single MP standing with him. These counties are Tharaka Nithi and Meru.

Tharaka Nithi has three MPs namely Ntwiga Patrick Munene(Chuka/Igambang’ombe), Murugara George Gitonga (Tharaka) and Kareke Mbiuki (Maara). These legislators are all in good terms with the government and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
In Meru, not even one among the nine MPs are allied to Rigathi Gachagua. John Mutunga (Tigania West), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Daniel Kiili (Igembe Central), Lawrence Mpuru (Tigania East), Dr. Shadrack Mwiti (,South Imenti), Abdul Dawood (North Imenti), Julius Taitumu (Igembe North), Moses Kirima (Central Imenti) and John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South) are all working with the government of the day.
These shows that Mt Kenya might divide their votes in 2027 election especially if President William Ruto picks Kindiki as his running mate.
