New twists have emerged in the investigation into the road accident that claimed the life of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, raising fresh questions about what really happened on the night of the crash.
Initial reports had indicated that Jirongo was alone in his vehicle when the fatal accident occurred. However, private investigators hired by his family now say evidence they have reviewed paints a different picture.
According to individuals close to the late politician, the investigators examined CCTV footage from areas near the crash scene. The footage reportedly shows two people seated in the front of the vehicle shortly before the accident, though their identities remain unclear due to poor image quality.
This revelation directly contradicts earlier accounts and has renewed calls for a deeper and more transparent investigation.
Former Senator George Khaniri publicly questioned the inconsistencies, asking why Jirongo was said to have been alone if visual evidence suggests otherwise. Other leaders have also weighed in, arguing that crucial details may have been missed during the initial stages of the probe.
Former MP Fred Gumo added to the debate, wondering how private investigators appeared to uncover basic facts that had not yet been conclusively addressed by official police investigations.
As public interest and speculation continue to grow, the police have moved to reassure Kenyans. Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, speaking during a second memorial service at Jirongo’s home in Maili Saba, Kitale, said a full forensic investigation is already underway.
Masengeli stressed that detectives are using all available methods to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. He urged the public to remain patient and avoid jumping to conclusions, assuring that authorities are committed to uncovering the truth and leaving no stone unturned.
