A massive explosion rocked Bahrain after an Iran ballistic missile reportedly struck the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) oil refinery in Maameer, triggering large fires at one of the Gulf nation’s most critical energy facilities.
A fire that broke out at a unit of Bahrain’s BAPCO Energies refinery following a missile strike has been fully contained, authorities said.
In a statement, the Bahraini government confirmed the blaze started after the facility was hit during the ongoing regional escalation involving Iran. Emergency teams responded quickly and managed to bring the fire under control.
Officials said there were no reported injuries, and refinery operations are continuing while authorities assess the extent of the damage.
Fire quickly brought under control
Authorities said the fire erupted in one of the refinery units shortly after the missile strike. Civil defense teams and emergency crews moved in to contain the blaze and secure the area.
The government later confirmed the situation is now fully under control, with safety measures in place to prevent further risks.
No injuries, operations continue
Despite the incident, officials reported no casualties. The refinery continues operating as normal while engineers evaluate any damage caused by the strike.
The BAPCO Energies refinery is one of Bahrain’s key energy facilities, making the swift containment of the fire critical for maintaining normal operations.
Tensions continue across the region
The incident comes amid rising tensions across the Gulf following a series of missile and drone attacks linked to the broader conflict involving Iran.
Authorities in Bahrain said they are continuing to monitor the situation and urged the public to rely on official sources for updates.
Established in 1929, BAPCO was among the first companies to discover oil in the Arabian side of the Gulf and has played a central role in Bahrain’s energy sector and economy.
