Faith Kipyegon’s Kenyan flag-inspired nails grab attention as she claims a record fourth world title.

The 31-year-old Kenyan icon not only stormed to her fourth consecutive world 1500m title but also turned heads with her nails, proudly polished in the colours of the Kenyan flag.

As the cameras zoomed in on her glowing smile and the fluttering flag draped across her back, her manicured nails, black, white, red, and green, glistened under the floodlights. They were more than a fashion statement; they were a bold declaration of patriotism and pride.

Kipyegon, who crossed the line in 3:52.15, blew kisses to fans in the packed stadium and to millions watching from home. Her victory was yet another reminder of her unrivalled dominance, but also of her grace and humility.

“I just want to thank God,” she told BBC Sport afterwards. “I knew I was capable of defending my world title after breaking the world record earlier this year. I thank God that I was strong today.”

For many, her triumph was more than just about athletics. Kipyegon represents resilience. After welcoming her daughter Alyn in 2018, she faced the daunting task of returning to elite competition.

She admitted it took sheer courage, mental strength, and shedding 19kg to get back in shape for the 2019 season. “It’s not an easy journey,” she said. “You need to be strong and courageous. I want to show women that after maternity leave, it’s not the end – it’s a new beginning.”

Her story has resonated with mothers across Kenya and beyond, proving that determination and discipline can balance motherhood and sporting excellence.

Married to Olympic medallist Timothy Kiptum and guided by legendary coach Patrick Sang, she continues to inspire a generation of athletes.

With this win, Faith etched her name further into history, tying Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with four world titles in a single event, and equalling Ethiopian great Tirunesh Dibaba’s record of eight individual world golds.

She is also eyeing yet another ambitious double gold medal in the 5000m, a feat she became the first woman to achieve two years ago.

But in Tokyo, it was the little details, her flag-themed nails and her radiant smile, that made the moment unforgettable. Faith Kipyegon wasn’t just running for gold; she was running for Kenya.
