Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has openly declared that he will campaign for President William Ruto to leave office in the 2027 General Election, saying he is acting on behalf of struggling Kenyans who feel let down by the current administration.
Speaking during the “Linda Mwananchi” rally at Amalemba grounds in Kakamega, Sifuna told thousands of supporters that his political stand is driven by the voices of ordinary citizens.
He claimed that many Kenyans are facing high cost of living, heavy taxes, and tough economic conditions, which he blamed on what he termed as failed leadership.
Sifuna said the people who elected him as senator have sent him to defend their interests and demand accountability.
He insisted that his mission is not personal but guided by what he described as widespread frustration among low-income earners.
The rally, organized by a section of leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), brought together key figures including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo.
The leaders used the platform to express their opposition to any political arrangement that would see ODM support Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Sifuna’s remarks were met with loud cheers from the crowd, which filled Amalemba grounds and waved party flags as speeches continued.
The senator maintained that 2027 will be a defining moment for the country and urged Kenyans to remain united in what he described as the struggle for better governance.
Political observers say the strong statements made at the Kakamega rally signal deepening divisions within ODM and could influence the party’s strategy as the next general election approaches.
