The family of former Lugari Member of Parliament and former Cabinet member Cyrus Jirongo has declared plans to pursue independent inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, who chairs the Jirongo funeral planning committee, made the disclosure clearly to the public who had already believed Jirongo dead in a deadly accident.
Only a few days after the deadly collision along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway, Khaniri said, the family and close friends had found significant gaps that needed more investigation so as the truth should be known by all kenyans and his family members.

He stated that the late politician had been in Karen at around eleven at night before suggesting he was returning home to Gigiri, raising grave doubts about whether Jirongo had truly driven himself to Naivasha.
Former Vihiga Senator Khaniri stated, “So me, I don’t think he drove to Naivasha willingly, and I don’t think he even drove himself to Naivasha.” The family insisted he had no known business in Naivasha, which is in the other direction from his home, and they wondered how he ended up there.
Khaniri also questioned how police gained access to Jirongo’s cell phone and why, in spite of the fact that the former minister had other spouses and had last spoken to other high-ranking officials just before his passing, detectives only contacted one wife. Concerns on the type of injuries received were also voiced.
The family claims that despite the significant damage to the car, Jirongo only had obvious injuries on his ankles; the rest of his body was essentially unharmed.

Calls for a comprehensive forensic investigation have increased as a result of the contrast.
The family said they will conduct an independent investigation to find the truth and dispel rumors as government officials carry out their investigations.
As the family and the country wait for more information regarding the unfortunate demise, a postmortem examination has been set for Tuesday at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
