Gabon crashed out of the African Championships in the group stage.
Now the country’s government has chosen to shut down the national team until further notice, fire the entire management team and suspend the country’s biggest star.
It was certainly not an Afcon to remember for Gabon , who lost three straight matches and thus saw themselves eliminated in the group stage.
It can be safely stated that the country’s government was not very pleased with the national team’s performance during the championship in Morocco.

After the 2-3 loss in the group stage finale against Ivory Coast, the country’s sports minister, Simplice-Desire Mamboula, read out a statement on national television on New Year’s Eve itself.
– Given“Following the disgraceful performance in the African Championships, the government has decided to dissolve the coaching team, suspend the national team until further notice and remove players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the team,” he said, adding:
– The government also calls on the Gabonese Football Federation to take full responsibility.
Aubameyang: “The problems are much deeper”
Neither the country’s greatest international player of all time Bruno Ecuele Manga (injured) nor the country’s greatest goalscorer of all time Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (injured) were involved in the loss against Ivory Coast.
Now, however, the veterans seem to have undeniably played their last international matches.
“I think the team’s problems are much deeper than the small individual I am,” Marseille star Aubameyang wrote on social media in connection with the loss to the Ivorians.
