China-Malawi relations continue to grow stronger as President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening ties with China. Speaking in Lilongwe after receiving Letters of Credence from Lu Xu, the new Chinese ambassador to Malawi, Chakwera expressed readiness to elevate cooperation between the two nations.

The Malawian leader conveyed his appreciation to China for its ongoing support in various development sectors. He also reiterated Malawi’s dedication to the one-China principle, acknowledging China’s role in shaping Malawi’s progress. The meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing China-Malawi relations, which have witnessed steady growth over the years.

Lu Xu, in her remarks, emphasized her commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. She stressed that China remains devoted to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural partnerships with Malawi. Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, hailed China as a dependable development partner. She acknowledged China’s contributions to Malawi’s infrastructural development, including the Parliament Building, Bingu International Conference Center, and major road networks. She emphasized that China-Malawi relations remain crucial for Malawi’s continued progress.

She also reiterated her focus on implementing agreements reached between President Xi Jinping and President Chakwera during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
