Just over a week after President William Ruto’s historic announcement on Jamhuri Day, the soon-to-be-completed Talanta Stadium now set to be officially known as the Raila Amolo Odinga International Stadium continues to captivate Kenyans with its impressive transformation.
The renaming, approved by President Ruto on December 12, 2025, during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, honors the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.
The decision followed an emotional appeal by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and received widespread applause from the crowd, reflecting a national consensus to immortalize Odinga’s legacy as a champion of democracy, unity, and youth empowerment.

As construction races toward completion in early 2026, recent images and updates showcase the stadium’s stunning modern design.
Located along Ngong Road in Jamhuri Grounds, the 60,000-seater venue features sleek exterior shielding, expansive roofing, and state-of-the-art facilities poised to host major international events, including potential matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosted by Kenya.
Recent progress includes the installation of distinctive Kenyan shields on the facade, adding a touch of national pride to the futuristic structure.

Aerial and ground-level views highlight the bowl-shaped arena taking shape, with advanced roofing and seating installations underway.
The stadium, part of the government’s Talanta Hela initiative to nurture sporting talent, aligns perfectly with Odinga’s lifelong passion for sports he was a known Arsenal fan and his advocacy for youth development.
Leaders across the political divide, including ODM officials and governors like Gladys Wanga and Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, have hailed the renaming as a fitting tribute that transcends politics and cements Odinga’s place in Kenya’s history.

As the facility nears its grand opening, excitement builds for what promises to be a world-class venue bearing the name of one of Kenya’s most iconic figures.
The Raila Amolo Odinga International Stadium is not just a sports arena it’s a symbol of national unity and aspiration for generations to come.
