Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to exercise caution in his dealings with fellow Opposition figures as discussions intensify over the selection of a joint presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the burial of the late Kelvin Mwendwa Musyoka, Mutula said he believes the upcoming election presents Kalonzo with a strong opportunity to vie for the presidency.
He advised the former Vice President to remain vigilant during coalition negotiations to avoid being sidelined.
In his remarks, Mutula expressed confidence that Kalonzo has the capacity to challenge President William Ruto in the next polls.
He cautioned him against allowing political arrangements that could undermine his candidacy, emphasizing that this could be his moment to seek the country’s top seat.
The governor also referenced past political alliances, arguing that Kalonzo had previously been disadvantaged in coalition agreements.
He encouraged the Wiper leader to ensure that past experiences are not repeated as Opposition leaders work toward forming a united front.
Mutula’s comments come at a time when Opposition parties are holding consultations aimed at identifying a flag bearer to face President Ruto in 2027.
His remarks are likely to add to ongoing debate over leadership, coalition strategy, and power-sharing within the Opposition.
