The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released preliminary findings regarding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.

Jirongo died in a road accident on the morning of December 13 along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Karai in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

According to the DCI, Jirongo was driving alone at approximately 3:00 AM when his vehicle collided head-on with a passenger bus.

He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries consistent with a high-impact collision. Investigators have ruled out foul play, indicating that the incident was a tragic traffic accident.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin addressed the public, stressing the need for caution in discussions surrounding the incident.

He noted that while preliminary findings point to an accident, the investigation remains ongoing to clarify all circumstances.

He warned that spreading rumors could mislead the public and interfere with the investigative process.

During the briefing, Director Amin also addressed broader national security issues. He assured citizens that the country remains stable during the festive season despite isolated crimes and reported that suspects involved in localized violence in Trans Mara and Tana River counties have been apprehended.

The DCI chief further highlighted the fight against corruption within law enforcement. He referenced the arrest of two traffic police officers in Diani by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly demanding bribes, emphasizing that any officer found violating the law will face strict consequences.

The DCI urged the public to await the full report while respecting the ongoing investigation. Director Amin reiterated that patience and reliance on verified information are essential to ensure justice, cautioning that misinformation could undermine both the investigation and public trust.
