Mike Sonko Speaks Out After Daughter Reports Domestic Violence Incident

Mike Sonko says his daughter called him in fear after being assaulted by her husband. A viral video shows Sonko confronting his son-in-law over the attack.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has opened up after his daughter reportedly faced domestic violence. Sonko said the incident came to light after receiving a sudden phone call from his daughter, a call he described as painful and frightening for any parent.

He explained that her shaky voice and desperate tone pushed him to act immediately. According to Sonko, no parent can sit still while their child is hurting or scared.

A video shared online, together with a recorded phone conversation, shows Sonko’s daughter explaining what led to the assault. She said she was only asking her husband what she should prepare for their children that morning when he reacted by slapping her twice.

In the audio, she begs her mother to pick her up, saying she did not expect violence simply for asking about breakfast.

The situation left Sonko visibly emotional. In the footage, he confronts his son-in-law directly, questioning why he would beat his wife instead of seeking help from his parents if there was a problem.

Sonko firmly warned the man to stay away from violence, making it clear he would not allow such behaviour again.

The former governor said the event forced him to think about other young couples across the country who face abuse quietly. He noted that if his own daughter could go through such pain, many more might be suffering with nobody to defend them.

Sonko added that marriage always has challenges, but violence destroys the home and the trust two people share.

Using the incident as an example, Sonko called on couples to handle disagreements with calm conversations instead of anger. He urged them to slow down, talk, and solve issues peacefully.

He stressed that homes should be safe places where love grows and conflicts are solved without harm.
