Nyeri Woman Seeks Divorce One Week After Wedding, Citing Health Concerns

A woman from Nyeri County has filed for divorce just a week after her wedding. She told the court she experienced severe pain during intimacy with her new husband.

A woman from the Mjengo area of Nyeri County has moved to court seeking to end her marriage, only a week after her traditional and legal wedding. She described her decision as a matter of personal health and well-being.

The mother of three had remarried after her previous relationship ended. Under her new husband’s cultural customs, she moved into his parents’ home before settling into the marriage.

The woman told the court that she began experiencing severe discomfort the first time the newlyweds were intimate. She said the pain was overwhelming and made her fear for her health.

She told the court: “It became too painful for me to cope. I could not continue.”

According to her testimony, she informed her mother, who advised her to endure the situation and gave her medication. Despite this, the issue persisted.

They attempted intimacy again, but the woman said the pain became unbearable, making it impossible for the marriage to continue.

The man did not dispute her claims and told the court they had mutually agreed to dissolve the marriage. He only requested that the dowry and money spent during the courtship be refunded.

With both parties in agreement, the court granted the divorce.
