Six die in Nakuru–Gilgil Highway Crash After Head-on Collision

Six people were killed early Saturday morning in a horrific road crash at Soysambu area in Mbaruk, along the busy Nakuru–Gilgil Highway.

The 4 a.m. accident involved a Toyota Caldina saloon car and a truck, police said.

All six victims were travelling in the smaller vehicle when it collided head-on with the truck near the Soysambu stretch — a section notorious for fatal accidents.

A junior traffic officer from Gilgil Police Station, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the media, said preliminary investigations suggest the driver of the Toyota Caldina was attempting to overtake when the vehicle rammed into an oncoming truck.

“The impact of the collision killed all six occupants of the car on the spot,” the officer said.

The wreckage of both vehicles was towed to Gilgil Police Station, while the bodies were moved to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification by family members.

Traffic police have urged motorists using the Nakuru–Gilgil stretch to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low and speeding is common.
