A 22-year-old Moi University student was found dead in a Nyamira lodge. She had reportedly travelled from Eldoret to visit her boyfriend.

Residents of Nyamira town woke up to disturbing news on Monday after a Moi University student was found dead in a local lodging. The 22-year-old third-year student had reportedly spent the night there with her boyfriend, who is said to come from Kisii County.

According to police reports, the young woman had travelled from Eldoret over the weekend to meet him. The boyfriend allegedly booked a room at a nearby guesthouse, where they checked in on Sunday evening.

Witnesses told police that the two were seen dining and drinking together before heading to their room. The following morning, panic struck when the man rushed to the reception, calling for help and claiming his girlfriend had collapsed.

Hotel attendants and guests hurried to the room, only to find the young woman lying motionless on the bed, partially dressed. Authorities were immediately alerted to the scene.

Nyamira County Police Commander confirmed the incident, stating that officers collected the body and transferred it to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death. The boyfriend is currently in custody to assist with the probe.”
said the County Police Commander.

Police suspect the woman might have died from exhaustion or a medical complication, though they have not ruled out foul play. Drugs and alcoholic drinks were recovered from the room during investigations.

Friends and classmates have expressed deep sorrow, describing her as a vibrant and kind young woman who loved life.

“She was full of energy and laughter. Losing her like this is heartbreaking.”
One classmate shared.

The incident has sparked online discussions about safety and responsibility in relationships among university students.

The body remains at the Nyamira County Referral Hospital as police await post-mortem results to determine the cause of death. Authorities continue their investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
