GSU officer Nahson Katumo was killed during a fight at a hotel along Mombasa Road. The officer was allegedly strangled and dumped in a water-filled trench.
Shock gripped Nairobi on Saturday night after a General Service Unit (GSU) officer was found dead following a violent confrontation at a hotel on Mombasa Road. The deceased, identified as Constable Nahson Katumo, service number 114506, was attached to GSU Mike Company.
According to police reports, the officer had visited Mwenje Resort and Restaurant, near Hilton Garden Hotel, to charge his phone when an argument erupted between him and a civilian over unclear reasons.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the altercation quickly escalated, leading to a physical fight. The suspect allegedly overpowered the officer, strangled him, and dragged his body into a nearby trench filled with water.
When officers from Embakasi Police Station arrived at the scene, they found Katumo’s body submerged, bearing visible injuries on the head and face.
A fellow officer, Constable Mandela Nelson, was notified about the incident and responded swiftly. He managed to arrest the suspect, who had also sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Police recovered a G3 rifle belonging to the slain officer, loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital for medical attention under police watch. Meanwhile, the officer’s body was transferred to Kenyatta University Mortuary for a post-mortem.
Detectives from DCI Embakasi and senior GSU officials are now probing the motive behind the incident, seeking to determine what triggered the fatal altercation.
