Shalkido’s father, Stephen Mungai, criticised Bahati’s public reaction to his son’s death.
Stephen Mungai, the father of the late Gengetone artist Shalkido, has expressed disappointment with musician Bahati over his reaction to his son’s death. Speaking in a YouTube interview on Wednesday, October 9, Mungai said Bahati’s social media post sharing private messages from Shalkido offered no comfort to the mourning family.
“That does not help us in any way. I don’t even know what to say,” he said.
After Shalkido’s passing, Bahati posted screenshots showing the late artist asking for a music collaboration message that appeared to go unanswered. He later claimed his management had spoken to Shalkido and that they had planned to record together.
However, fans and family members viewed the post as insensitive and attention-seeking.
Mungai revealed that Shalkido was his only child and described the loss as unbearable.
“I have no other child. Just imagine the pain. Even his grandmother is unwell. She was the one who broke the news to me,” he shared.
He added that burial arrangements remain uncertain due to long-standing differences between him and Shalkido’s mother, which have made planning difficult.
Shalkido, a member of the popular Sailors Gang group, died on Sunday after a hit-and-run accident. He was rushed to Kenyatta University Hospital, where he was declared brain dead before succumbing to his injuries.
Medical reports showed he suffered severe head trauma, internal bleeding, and multiple fractures. His death has left fans, friends, and family heartbroken, mourning the loss of a rising star whose life was cut short too soon.
