A Githurai client allegedly tried to trap a TV technician with a faulty set.

A TV technician has warned fellow service providers to always test equipment before installation, after nearly falling victim to what he believes was a deliberate trap.

The technician shared how he was called by a new client in Githurai to mount a 32-inch television. Before beginning work, he requested to test the TV, a rule he follows strictly.

“Before mounting any TV, I must test it or at least see it turned on—just to confirm everything, especially the screen, is okay,” he explained.

The client initially resisted, claiming the power cable was missing. After some insistence, the cable was later found under a chair.

When the TV was powered on, the screen displayed cracks and visible lines, showing it was already damaged.

The technician said the client looked shocked and avoided answering when asked if she was aware of the fault. He refused to mount the TV and instead packed his tools. The client later paid his transport costs.

According to the technician, had he gone ahead without testing, he would likely have been accused of causing the damage and forced to repair or replace the television.

“This was a clear attempt to trap me. If I hadn’t been careful, I would have been left footing the bill for something I didn’t do,” he said.

He has since issued a strong warning to fellow technicians and service providers:

“Always check and test items before installing or handling them. It could save you from unfair blame and huge losses.”
