Justice Pemba Rejects Chakwera BId To Halt Malawi Elections Results
The High Court in Lilongwe has dismissed Lazarus Chakwera and the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) attempt to block the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) from announcing the results of the September 16 presidential election.

The court ruled that MEC is within its mandate to proceed with publishing the results, though it granted Chakwera and the MCP permission to seek a judicial review over alleged electoral irregularities.
The ruling comes amid a tense vote count in which former President Peter Mutharika has taken a strong lead, securing about two-thirds of the votes tallied so far, including in Chakwera’s traditional strongholds such as Lilongwe.
Former President Bakili Muluzi has publicly urged Chakwera to concede defeat & allow the country to move on.
The Malawi electoral commission said it will announce its official results today.
