Barcelona will host Valencia at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Sunday.

Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday night that it will play its first La Liga home game of the season at the 6,000-seater Estadi Johan Cruyff. The stadium usually accommodates the women’s side and reserve squads, but it will now host Valencia this weekend as the club awaits final permits to reopen the revamped Spotify Camp Nou.

In a message to members, Barcelona explained:

“The club is working intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Spotify Camp Nou in the coming weeks. For this reason, the match will instead be played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.”

The club also expressed gratitude to fans for their patience, calling the process both “complex” and “exciting.”

Barcelona played its last two seasons at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc while Camp Nou underwent renovations. The move to a smaller venue is not unprecedented in Spain, with Real Madrid also using the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium during the 2020–21 season while the Santiago Bernabéu was being refurbished.

Barcelona will kick off its Champions League campaign away to Newcastle on September 18. The club’s first European home game at the renovated Camp Nou is scheduled for October 1, when they face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
