A woman staged a fake abuse video to trick comedian Eric Omondi and Kenyans.
The incident started when a video showing a woman being thrown out of her house with her children went viral online. Many Kenyans were moved and called on Eric Omondi to help through his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative.
Eric Omondi quickly launched a fundraiser to assist the woman. Within hours, well-wishers raised over KSh 1 million for her and her children.
Investigations later revealed the story was fake. The woman had borrowed one child from a friend and hired a man to pose as her abusive husband.
She confessed to the fraud and was arrested. Police confirmed that the phone used to collect donations is now under investigation. Chief Osoro cautioned Kenyans against falling victim to such scams.
Omondi, who has helped many genuine cases, said he was disappointed but urged Kenyans not to stop giving. Instead, he advised them to be careful and ensure they support real victims.
