Luis Diaz Bids Emotional Farewell as He Joins Bayern Munich from Liverpool

Luis Diaz has completed a £65.5m transfer to Bayern Munich.

Luis Diaz has officially left Liverpool to join German giants Bayern Munich in a £65.5m deal, putting an end to his memorable three-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield.

The Colombian forward, 28, penned a four-year contract with the Bundesliga champions after being omitted from Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan due to the ongoing transfer speculation.

Farewell Message to Liverpool Fans

In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Diaz reflected on his journey with the Reds:

“I arrived with all the dreams in the world, and I am leaving proud of everything we achieved together. It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled, and, most of all, to be leaving a champion.”

He also paid tribute to his late team-mate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away earlier this month:

“It would have been the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way. I carry everyone with me in my heart, but one of them in particular: Diogo. I will never forget him.”

Diaz joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 for £37m. During his time at the club, he scored 41 goals in 148 appearances and won four major trophies, including: Premier League (2024/25), FA Cup (2022), EFL Cup (2022) FA Community Shield (2022)

He also featured in the 2022 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

Liverpool initially turned down Bayern’s £58.6m bid earlier this month. However, after fresh negotiations, they accepted the improved £65.5m offer, allowing Diaz to undergo a medical and complete his move to Germany.

Diaz’s departure boosts Liverpool’s summer sales total to approximately £115m. With around £270m already spent on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez, the club is actively reshaping its squad.

Attention now turns to Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who didn’t travel for the Magpies’ far-east tour and is reportedly open to a move.
