Arsenal have signed Chelsea winger Noni Madueke for £48 million, rising to £52M with add-ons
Arsenal have officially signed Chelsea winger Noni Madueke for £48 million, with the fee potentially rising to £52 million through performance bonuses. The England international agreed to a five-year contract, marking one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer.
Madueke’s move has sparked mixed reactions from Arsenal supporters. Over 5,000 fans signed a petition opposing the transfer, calling the fee too high. Some even vandalised murals near the Emirates Stadium with anti-Arteta messages in protest.
Despite the drama, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stood firm.
“Noni is an exciting and powerful young player. He brings Premier League experience and will improve our squad,” Arteta said
Born and raised in north London, Madueke said he feels at home joining the Gunners.
“It’s a great moment for me. Arsenal already has a strong identity, and I’m excited to help the team go further,” he said.
Madueke scored 11 goals for Chelsea last season and played a key role in their UEFA Conference League triumph and Champions League qualification. He joined Chelsea from PSV in 2023 and made 90 appearances, scoring 20 goals.
Madueke becomes the third major signing for Arsenal this summer, after bringing in Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The club’s total spending now stands at over £120 million.
A £13 million move for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera is nearly complete, while talks are still ongoing with Sporting Lisbon over striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Madueke will join his new teammates in early August after Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong.
