Thousands Gather for Funeral of Israeli Airstrike

A significant gathering took place in Tehran on Saturday as thousands honored those who lost their lives in recent Israeli airstrikes, including military leaders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

The funeral procession commenced at Enghelab Square and proceeded towards Azadi Square, attracting a diverse crowd from various segments of Iranian society, alongside prominent military and government officials, as reported by the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

This event followed Brig. Gen. Hassan Hassanzadeh’s announcement on Friday, where the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Tehran declared that the funeral would serve as a “national symbolic ceremony” for those affected by the Israeli assaults.

Hassanzadeh indicated that the ceremony would feature the symbolic burial of several senior military personnel and civilians, while other victims had been interred in different provinces in the days leading up to the event.

The conflict between Israel and Iran intensified on June 13 when Israel initiated airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian facilities, resulting in at least 606 fatalities and injuring 5,332 individuals, according to reports from Iran’s Health Ministry.

In response, Tehran executed missile and drone strikes against Israel that reportedly killed at least 29 people and injured over 3,400 others based on data from Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The hostilities were ultimately paused with a ceasefire brokered by the United States that came into effect on June 24.
