US Military plane in Malawi to help find its missing vice president’s flight

Currently taking off from Lilongwe and flying towards the north of the country is a twin-engine turboprop Beechcraft King Air 300 (C-12).

The president of Malawi requested assistance in locating the vice president’s missing plane from the US and the UK in his national speech.

On Monday, June 10, 2024, the vice president of Malawi, Saulos Chilima, was flying a Dornier 228 (Reg MAAW-T04) aircraft when it disappeared.

In the hunt for a missing military plane carrying the nation’s vice president, Saulos Klaus Chilima, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi stated he has requested assistance from neighboring nations as well as the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Norway.

With nine other people, Chilima, 51, boarded a military plane that departed Lilongwe, the country’s capital, at 9:17 AM. The aircraft was supposed to touch down at Mzuzu Airport at 10:02 AM.

Chakwera told the country on television late on Monday that the plane’s poor visibility prevented it from landing at the airport and that it was instructed to return to the capital.

He claimed that attempts to get in touch with the aircraft by aviation authorities had been unsuccessful since it vanished from the radar.

He added that the search area was centered in a forest reserve within a radius of 10 kilometers and said, “I’m holding on to every fiber of hope that we’ll find survivors.”

“I’ve issued strict instructions directing the operation to continue until the plane is located.”

He claimed that Malawi has requested assistance in the rescue attempts from the governments of the United States, Britain, Norway, and Israel, as well as from neighboring countries.
