In Umzimkhulu, in the remote north of KwaZulu Natal, a 94-year-old grandmother was cruelly murdered, allegedly by her 24-year-old neighbor.
It is said that the victim, gogo Nokubonga Mjoli, lived alone and frequently called the young man to ask for assistance with small tasks around the house or to send him to the store.
TORTURED AND DEATHIZED
Mjoli was last seen alive on Friday, when she, as usual, summoned her trusty neighbor to come aid her at her home.
As usual, the suspect did not assist the gogo; instead, he raped, strangled, and left her dead in her home.
Another neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, claims that until Saturday afternoon, when people observed that she had stopped sitting in front of her house as usual, the neighborhood was unaware of the occurrence.
AWFUL FINDING
When the neighbors went to go check on her, they found something surprising. On her bed was the body of Gogo Mjoli. Since he was the last person to be seen at gogo Mjoli’s house, we asked the young man what had happened that evening.
The neighbor stated that the young man admitted to the crime, claiming that he had raped and strangled the woman.
After the community phoned the police, the offender was taken into custody.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the KZN police spokesperson, verified the event. “After an incident in which the suspect is said to have attacked a 94-year-old woman, Umzimkhulu police have detained a 24-year-old male for rape, robbery, and murder. According to the allegations, the woman was at her home when the suspect broke in, raped, killed, and stole from her,” he stated.
The Umzimkhulu Magistrates Court is where the suspect is anticipated to appear.
