Nearly ten years have passed since Sophie disclosed that she was given a diabetes diagnosis following the widespread distribution of photos of her dramatic weight loss on social media. In an interview with Metro FM, the actress and businesswoman—who is now a wellness coach teaching people how to live a healthy life—discussed the need of monitoring one’s health.
“You must arm yourself with knowledge of your physical self and identity. Avoid being taken off guard like I was. Although my parents had taught me about diabetes, I was still unaware of it, the woman admitted. Recalling how her son Lwandle, also referred to as Ocean L, looked after her at her lowest period in life, Sophie sobbed.
“When I consider Ocean, I start to cry.” When I was at my lowest, after a stroke, that youngster carried me at 42 kg. “Mommy, we’re going to get through this,” he said as he held me.My life was rescued by my kids. Apart from God, my children, my friends, my kids… It was Ocean L who accompanied me during my nocturnal hours.
That child would have given me a bath if he had been able to. We don’t comprehend when our kids are supporting us while simultaneously sobbing on the other side, which is why I lost it.
“My son, my precious ‘prem baby’, I never understood why God made you come early, I now see he was prepping you to know what is strength,” Sophie said in a social media post discussing the influence Ocean L had on her life.
