A prayer for God to provide a husband for Charlene, the daughter of Kenya’s President William Ruto, has sparked a flurry of reactions among social media users in the East African nation.
Ruto, his wife, and Charlene were among thousands who attended a mass prayer meeting by Benny Hinn, the American preacher, when his daughter made the request.
The prayer meeting was held over the weekend in Nairobi, the capital city.
Hinn urged those with prayer requests to come forward, and Charlene heeded the call. She had prayed for the “calling” she said she has for youth.
“Give her a husband that will fulfil that call with her. Lord send that young man her way that will be a strength to her, a great supporter,” the preacher bellowed into the microphone after Charlene’s special request.
“She can’t do this alone, Lord, she is going to the battlefield to win souls… She needs a husband soon.”
The request elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many sending their marriage proposals her way.
A social media user who identified himself as Omwamba, penned a letter to the first daughter via X on Monday, saying he was moved by her sincerity and humility.
“My name is Omwamba, a hustler. And I am reaching out to you after witnessing your heartfelt request for a husband during your prayer session with the Pastor Benny Hinn,” the man wrote.
“I was moved by your sincerity and the faith you demonstrated yesterday and God has sent me your way.
“Having seen your strong faith and genuine desire for companionship, I am writing to express my admiration and to humbly request your hand in marriage.”
Another social media user wrote: “Singleness is not a state to admire… you see even Charlene Ruto went to Benny Hinn and her prayer request was that God gives her a Husband so that she can relate. Now, it means our guy Daddy Owen was just playing Banta with her,” the man tweeted, referring to a gospel singer the first daughter had been romantically linked with.
Two months ago, rumours went viral that Charlene was dating gospel singer Daddy Owen, after she visited his rural home in Kakamega and took photos with his mother.
