Daniel Koikai, father of late media celebrity Mary Njambi Koikai, died hours after apologizing to his daughter.
Sources say Mr. Koikai died on June 14, 2024, although the cause remains unknown.
It is said that Mr. Koikai died during Njambi Koikai’s burial at Lang’ata Cemetery.
At Njambi’s requiem ceremony at Nairobi Chapel on Thursday, Mr. Koikai apologized for not being more present.
He recounted their happy and bad experiences together.
“We went shopping and had lunches at some of the town restaurants when times were good,” he continued. “I miss our good times together. We would spend days or months without talking during tough periods, which I will always blame myself for since I lost the chance to rebuild ties with you.”
The last message Njambi sent him on June 2, 2024, requested juice, which Mr. Koikai shared.
Message: “Hi Dad, Hope you arrived home safely. Del Monte red berry orange water and fresh orange and passion fruit juice are needed. I have to leave to see the physicians; we’ll discuss tomorrow. I enjoyed seeing and reconnecting.”
Unfortunately, they never met again after this message.
He regretted abandoning Njambi’s upbringing to her mother, especially during her endometriosis battle.
Since Mr. Koikai was stationed abroad, they had not seen each other since she was in primary school about eight years ago.
After reconnecting, they talked about her education and he promised to finance her tuition.
Mr. Koikai deeply regretted not being there for Njambi when she needed him.
I regret greatly. Too late to regret. I can only accept that I failed when you needed me most and am not proud of my actions. At your hospital bedside with your mother the night you left us, you told me we share blood and that you were glad I came. I hope we can reconnect again, he remarked.
On Tuesday, June 4, endometriosis fighter Njambi Koikai died after a hard battle. Her Nairobi Hospital ICU treatment ended her life.
