Spain reached the final of the Euro 2024 tournament by defeating France 2-1.
In a frantic first half, Spain scored twice in five minutes to seal a 2-1 comeback victory over France on Tuesday.
A record-breaking goal from teenager Lamine Yamal and an effort from Dani Olmo put Spain into the final of the Euro 2024 tournament.
In the 21st minute, Yamal, who was only 16 years old then, became the youngest player to score in a Euro or World Cup event by canceling out Randal Kolo Muani’s first goal with a magnificent shot. Olmo scored another goal in the 25th minute, making it his third goal in the knockout stage.
To achieve a record-breaking fourth European championship, the Spaniards, who have won every game of the tournament up to this point, will now compete against the team that emerges victorious from the match between England and the Netherlands on Wednesday. The final will take place in Berlin on Sunday.
Spain had an early opportunity as Yamal, who holds the record for being the youngest player to participate in a World Cup or Euro semi-final, launched a cross to the far post. However, Fabian Ruiz’s header went over the bar.
After fracturing his nose earlier in the competition, Kylian Mbappe, playing without a mask, passed the ball to Kolo Muani, who scored France’s first goal from open play at Euro 2024. An almost identical move in the ninth minute improved France’s performance.
Despite missing Dani Carvajal and Robin Le Normand due to suspensions and Pedri, who was injured, the Spaniards were able to immediately turn the game around.
The record for the youngest player to score in a European Championship or World Cup was previously held by the legendary Brazilian player Pele. Yamal broke this record by curling a magnificent left-footed effort from 25 meters in off the post.
Olmo finished their lightning-fast comeback in the 25th minute with a shot that Jules Kounde of France turned in. This occurred before France had any opportunity to recover from their initial setback.
After the halftime break, France increased the pace of their game and capitalized on opportunities presented by Mbappe and Theo Hernandez. Before this, France had only allowed one goal in their previous five matches.
The finalists of the 2022 World Cup, however, were unable to find a way to equalize the score.
