Trump speaks on Cheatle’s Resignation
On Tuesday, Donald Trump responded to the departure of Kimberly Cheatle as director of the Secret Service.
Cheatle quit after being questioned in depth by Congress about the attempted assassination of the former president.
After Kimberly Cheatle quit as director of the Secret Service, Biden made a long speech praising her work.
Cheatle resignation
Cheatle resigned early Tuesday morning after being questioned by the House Oversight Committee for four to five hours on Monday.
They wanted to know more about the July 13 attempt on Trump’s life at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, as well as what the Secret Service did in response.
After the attempted murder that left Trump, others hurt, and one man dead, Cheatle was criticized for not keeping the former president safe, even though he asked them to do so.
Not long after Cheatle quit, Trump brought up the attempted assassination and criticized the Biden government and the Secret Service.
“The Biden/Harris Administration didn’t do enough to protect me, and I had to die for democracy.” I felt very honoured to do that!” Trump created a Truth Social post.
Biden “thankful.”
Biden made a long speech after she quit and thanked her for her work. After James Murray’s retirement in 2022, the President chose Cheatle to lead the Secret Service.
“Jill and I are thankful to Director Kim Cheatle for all the years she has worked for the public,” he said. It was noted that while working for the US Secret Service, she put her life at risk to protect others. “We also want to thank her for taking on the job of head of the Secret Service during our administration. We appreciate her service to our family.”
“The independent investigation into what happened on July 13 is ongoing, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it finds.” Things that day will never happen again. I wish Kim the best as we progress, and I plan to name a new Director soon.
Unrest in the US
There was much political unrest in the US at the time of Cheatle’s departure. Biden dropped his campaign on Sunday and said he would back Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
Democrats need to pick a replacement for Biden by August 7. If they don’t, they could be kicked off the Ohio ticket.
Since then, Trump has said that he thinks Harris will be even easier to beat than Biden and praised Biden’s choice to drop out of the race.
