During the extradition case involving Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, the state lawyers presented an original extradition request that the defence team had initially requested.
Defence lawyer Wapona Kita began questioning state witness, Sibongire Mnzinyathi, who is also the Director of Public Prosecutions in South Africa.
The lawyers, Wapona Kita and Alicia Roos, who previously represented the Bushiris in South Africa, had requested proof of the extradition request from the state, arguing that there would be no need to proceed with the case if the original document did not exist.
Previously, the defence lawyers refused the documents and court files, saying they were not original copies.
Previously, the case failed to start off because Mzinyathi was stuck in Kenya as his flight, which was connecting his trip from South Africa to Malawi, was overbooked.
Kita wondered why the witness travelled to Malawi via Kenya when there were direct flights from South Africa to Malawi.
Cross-examination is expected to continue later, in a few hours.
