Central West Police Public Relations Officer, Foster Benjamin, identified the deceased as Constable Acklas Samuel, 30.
Samuel was in an FDH Bank Cash-Van vehicle which lost control due to speeding.
Benjamin states the vehicle also killed 12-year-old Beatrice Douglas who sustained internal injuries. It finally crashed into an oncoming Ford Ranger Double Cabin pick-up belonging to Machinga Agricultural Development Division.
According to him, the officer had sustained head injuries and was taken to Ntcheu District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The occupants of the FDH Cash-Van vehicle and the other car were treated as outpatients.
Meanwhile, FDH Bank Managing Director, Noel Mkulichi, has extended a condolence message to the bereaved family and the Malawi Police Service.
“Our thoughts are with all parties affected by the incident as we continue to work with MPS and other stakeholders during this difficult time. We are in touch with and are offering full support to the families of the Late Constable Acklass Samuel and late Beatrice Douglas as well as the families of the other victims,” reads part of the statement signed by Mkulichi.
The late Samuel hailed from Chithumba village, T/A Mavwere, Mchinji.
