The Federal Government of Nigeria was able to help 190 Nigerians who were in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) get back to their home country.
visa ban
This is a big step forward in the recently settled visa ban argument between Nigeria and the UAE.
This latest round of repatriation follows a similar move to bring back 542 Nigerians from the UAE in October 2022.
The UAE banned them for a number of reasons, such as claims of bad behavior and efforts to circumvent visa rules.
bad behavior
The people returning arrived at 5:57 AM on Tuesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) led a group of government officials who were happy to see them.
Since then, the returnees have been profiled and recorded by the proper authorities, and they have been told what is expected of them.
In a statement made by NEMA and signed by Bashir Garga, the agency’s North Central Zone Director, the group stressed the importance of the returnees’ proper and responsible behavior.
The statement also said that the federal government wants all Nigerians, no matter where they live, to uphold the basic principles of patriotism, rule of law, decency, and honesty.
“This agreement includes new rules and controls that make it easier to get a UAE visa.” Visas will be given out again starting July 15, 2024. “Nigerian citizens who want to learn more about the UAE’s new visa rules can go to the document verification hub,” said the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris.
diplomatic efforts
The return of the 190 Nigerians is seen as a positive result of the diplomatic efforts to improve relations between Nigeria and the UAE.
The Nigerian government has said that it will ensure the well-being of its citizens living abroad and maintain good links with other countries.
This event shows how important it is for diplomats to keep talking to each other and for government agencies to help and protect people living abroad.
Nigeria and the UAE are working together again, and both countries are looking forward to stronger ties and better travel and living conditions for their own people.
