On September 12, 2023, Jovanovic gave birth in secret in her Lauffen am Neckar house in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Shortly after giving delivery, she hurled her baby girl from her apartment window, which caused the child to fall almost four meters onto the road below and break her skull.
During the July 3, 2024, court proceedings at Heilbronn District Court, Jovanovic stated that she thought having a kid would harm her career as an executive in Porsche’s legal department.
Public prosecutor Mareike Hafendoerfer stated, “The accused was not prepared to put her life plans, especially her professional advancement, on hold for a child.” Prosecutors contended that she purposefully disguised her pregnancy from neighbors and coworkers.
Attorney Malte Hoech led Jovanovic’s defense team, which argued that the baby’s fall was an accident and that she was unaware she was pregnant.
Hoech called the event an “exceptional psychological situation,” claiming that Jovanovic gave birth at home by herself and then unintentionally dropped the child.
Jovanovic was imprisoned when the court upheld the manslaughter charge despite these defenses.
The shocked neighbors said they were unaware of Jovanovic’s pregnancy. One of the neighbors said, “No one saw the woman was pregnant.” She had changed recently and stopped interacting with us. We assumed she was under stress at work.
Many people are outraged by this case and believe the seven-and-a-half-year sentence is too light for such a horrific deed.
This opinion is reflected in comments on social media, where users have referred to Jovanovic as a “dumb murderer” and written “Dead Career.”
