Kenyan police say that the main suspect, who was caught after the bodies of 42 women were found mutilated in a garbage dump in Nairobi, admitted to killing them.
On Monday, Mohamed Amin, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, told the media, “The suspect admitted to having lured, killed, and dumped 42 female bodies at the dump site.”
We are dealing with a serial killer.
After the arrest was made, Amin said, “We are dealing with a serial killer—a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life.”
He also said that a second suspect had been arrested after being caught with a victim’s phone.
caught near a bar
Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said that the main suspect, who was 33 years old, was caught near a bar at about 3 a.m. local time (00:00 GMT) as part of an operation by the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
At this point, nine bodies had been found, and he said that tests would be done on all of them on Monday.
A video shared on social media also showed police showing several items that were supposedly connected to the person who was suspected of killing.
Since Friday, bodies that have been cut up and put back together in plastic bags have been found in the trash in the Mukuru slums in the south of the city. This has shocked the whole country.
On Sunday, police said that all nine of the people who had been found were women.
Over the weekend, there was a lot of tension at the crime scene, and cops used tear gas to get people to leave.
