Malawians are paying their final respects to the late Soulos Chilima in Lilongwe

The State funeral service, which will take place at Lilongwe’s Bingu National Stadium, is anticipated to draw a sizable crowd of dignitaries and people who want to honor the respected leader.

Among the dignitaries are Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma, Zambia’s Minister of Defense; Philip Mpango, Tanzania’s Vice President; and Alban Sumana Kingford Bagbin, Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament.

Since 2014, Chilima, who passed suddenly unexpectedly earlier this week, has played a significant role in the politics of the nation.

He is well-liked both at home and abroad for his commitment to anti-corruption initiatives and economic reforms.

The fact that these Heads of State are present demonstrates the wide-ranging influence the late Dr. Chilima had on Africa as well as the high regard he enjoyed among his colleagues.

All spheres of society have paid their respects to him, demonstrating the profound impact he had on the socio-political climate of the nation.

His visionary leadership and commitment to building a fairer society have served as an inspiration to many.

Flags were flown at half mast throughout the 21 days of national mourning that the government designated in honor of the late Dr. Chilima.

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, the late Dr. Chilima’s body will be brought to Bingu National Stadium (BNS) for prayers.

On June 17, 2024, on Monday, the late Vice President Chilima will be laid to rest in Nsipe Village, Ntcheu District.
