A spokeswoman for the Lilongwe police department stated that the children underwent a miracle survival after spending three days inside the well.
According to Chigalu, Madzinkusamba and his wife, they got into a fight on July 6, 2024, in Matapa Village, which is located in Likuni township in the district.
They reached an agreement to divorce each other, but the suspect was afraid that after the divorce, the wife would leave with the children.
”As a result, the suspect planned to kill them so that neither the wife nor he would benefit from possession of the children.”
On the same day, Madzinkusamba took the children and tossed them down an unoccupied well that was thirty meters deep, close to the Nkhalango Clinic in the Likuni area, so that they would kill themselves.
He did this without his wife’s knowledge.

The mother, on the other hand, became suspicious immediately after the children went missing. In response to her inquiries about their whereabouts, the suspect repeatedly assured her that the children were secure in another location.
Aubrey Madzinkusamba detained
After three days of being unable to locate the children at any of their relatives’ or friends’ residences, the wife decided to report the problem to the Chinsapo Police Unit, where the guy was detained and questioned by the detectives.
Later on, he disclosed that he had murdered the children by hurling them into a well to ensure that none of them would be able to claim custody of the children following the divorce legally.
The children were found to be still holding on to their breath and to have their heads just above the water when the law enforcement officers, who the suspect led, raced to the site immediately.
rescuing children
To bring the children to safety one by one, the police, in collaboration with members of the community, used a bucket attached to ropes.
As soon as they were discovered, they were sent to Bwaila District Hospital for medical assistance, and they were then transferred to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where they are now being treated.
A charge of attempted murder will shortly be brought before the court, who is originally from Kasiya Village, which is located in the Khongoni Traditional Authority in the Lilongwe District.
