The calm hamlet of Kapsabet is in grief following the unexpected death of Reverend James Kemei, a 43-year-old priest of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, in a stunning and terrible occurrence.
An officer of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is said to have slain Reverend Kemei after finding him at home late at night in a compromising scenario with the officer’s wife. According to reports from the area, the KDF officer responded to a tip on the priest and his spouse’s whereabouts.
Based on this information, the cop crept into his house and hid in a room, waiting for the appropriate opportunity.
According to reports, the cop attacked Reverend Kemei as soon as he went to bed, immobilizing the priest before escaping the area.
The priest was apparently knocked unconscious by a hit to the head delivered by the soldier, who then severed his genitalia.
After that, he turned to face his wife and broke her hands before running away and leaving the priest for dead.
The severely hurt priest was taken by kind people to Kapsabet level 5 hospital and later moved to Eldoret hospital, where he passed away while receiving treatment, according to Nandi police chief Dickson Njogu.
Detectives open Criminal Investigations
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are looking into the matter, Mr. Njogu stated.
According to Mr. Njogu, the event had also been reported to the military police. It happened in the Cheplengu neighborhood, which is on the outskirts of Kapsabet town.
Following the event, the injured woman is reported to have left the couple’s house and is still at large.
The priest had been moved to Sang’alo parish in Mosop, but he continued to travel from Kapsabet, according to the locals he spoke with, due of his purported love affair with the lay reader.
